Summary

So, long story short. My birthday is coming up. And my sister, the amazing Young Llama Reader, wanted to get me the best gift she could find me. And she found it. You all know that I love The Epic Order of the Seven. Jenny L. Cote is my favorite author. Well, for my birthday I wanted the next book in the series, The Declaration, The Sword, and The Spy, but it’s not coming out until April 15. My birthday is April 1. (No joke.) I knew I wouldn’t get the book until after my birthday, but my sister had other plans. My sister got a hold of Jenny. I don’t know how she did it, but the Young Llama got me an ADVANCED COPY OF THE BOOK! Can you believe that? So, before I review this amazing book, I just want to say thank you to my sister and Jenny L. Cote for giving me the best birthday gift ever. I don’t know how I could ever thank you two enough. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

Now for the review. This book was amazing. I couldn’t put it down. Continuing the story of the American Revolution, this book takes you on a wild adventure. The last book set the stage for the war, but now the battle has begun. The British have taken over Boston. Spies are everywhere. The Team can’t find the spy that’s spilling the rebels’ secrets to the enemy. And all Lafayette wants is to help.

Jenny wrote this story beautifully. She captured the spirit of freedom that the Americans are looking for. The best part of this book, is the spies. I’ve always liked the idea of being a spy, but the men in this story had a much different mission. Unlike the spies you see in movies, these men were placed in situations that I couldn’t even imagine. They would send letters of information from all over. They had to have secret identities and ways to send the letters so they wouldn’t be caught. And if they were discovered, they would die by hanging. In this story, the British have a spy right under the noses of the Patriots. Not knowing the identity of the spy was driving me insane during the book. I had to know who he was. The mystery kept me on edge the entire time until I found out who he was. And when I did find out, I couldn’t believe it. Jenny hid him perfectly. She kept you wanting more with this sneaky spy. She kept the animals on their toes too.

This book was so enjoyable. I am totally reading it again along with the book before it as soon as possible. The story was exciting. The characters were great. I loved this book. The only thing I feel that I should mention, is the spiritual battle going on in the story. The British aren’t the only ones sending their spies. The Enemy is too. I always forget about the Enemy working behind the scenes. This book reminded me of it. There is evil in this world. For all we know the enemy could have been working during this war. If you want to read this book, just know that this is a story about war. There is death, and loss, and the Enemy’s evil trying to take over.

Overall, this is an amazing book. And I believe it is one that can be read to the whole family, as long as you know that this story has death and the Enemy. This can be a great book for teens. (I’m a teen after all, and I adored the book.) It’s educational, adventurous, and can even be humorous. It’s a brand new way of telling our nation’s history. Definitely my favorite way of telling it. Thank you once again, Jenny, for sending me this book. You did absolutely incredible on it. And thank you, Kelsey, the best sister in the world, for the birthday gift. I love it. (I don’t know how I’m going to top this one.) I hope you all liked my review. If you’re interested in reading this book, it will be out April 15, 2020. And one last thank you to Jenny. You’re amazing.

“THE BRITISH ARE COMING!” . . . but so are THE FRENCH!

A spy in the Sons of Liberty threatens to crush the patriot cause on the eve of war, but who will fire the first shot at Lexington and launch the American Revolution? The Marquis de Lafayette commits his sword to fight as France seeks to secretly support the American cause with spies on both sides of the Atlantic. Following Bunker Hill, George Washington faces the impossible task of driving the British from Boston with an undisciplined army and no gunpowder or cannons. As Congress debates Independence, Thomas Jefferson pens a Declaration—but it will never see the light of day if the vote isn’t unanimous. The Epic Order of the Seven animal team must assist the Founding Fathers with espionage and numerous miracles to win this war for American Independence while a new, evil enemy seeks to slaughter the patriots and their commander in the field. But which will be the more dangerous—the enemy without or the enemy within?

Covering the events from March 1775 to July 1776, this second book in Cote’s Epic Revolutionary Saga tells of the incredible yet lesser-known struggles of the war before Independence.
