Review

This is book 2 in the DreamKeeper Saga and I just adore this series!!! It’s like Narnia and Prince Warriors were mixed into a dream world adventure, perfect for girls 8 and up!

This book is about Lily, a young girl gifted with imagination. But it really only works for her when she is in the dream world. Now that she is back with her father, Lily is having trouble focusing on her real life, and she longs to go back to the realm. So when her dragon friend Cedric, tells her there is a disease overtaking the kingdom, Lily jumps at a chance to go back! But danger lurks behind every corner, and Lily’s fears might just ruin them all…

This book series is just too cute! I love the adventure, the entire novel is filled with a focus on helping others instead of focusing on yourself. It is very God themed a lot like Narnia and written wonderfully!!! Not to mention the covers are GORGEOUS!!! (I do love a pretty cover!) Honestly these are some of the best Christian kids fiction I have read! Right up there with Prince Warriors and the Wingfeather Saga.

Now there is violence in the book. Mention of getting hurt, some talk of blood and mention of fights. This book has a sickness in it that makes people and creatures “rot” but it isn’t too gory. There is also spiritual warfare in the novel. Mention of fighting evil creatures and monsters. But the light always wins!

Overall, this book is fabulous! I am thoroughly enjoying this series and totally suggest it to girls 8 and up! It is fun, adventurous and a perfect Christian story about faith over fear. Happy Readings!!! -The Young Llama Reader.

Pros

  • A wonderful Christian adventure!!!!
  • Great for kids 8 and up!
  • A fantastic series!!!!

Cons

  • Violence…
  • Spiritual warfare.

It’s been a month since 12-year-old Lily McKinley was whisked away to the Somnium Realm to rescue her father, and although she’s overjoyed to have him home, she can’t leave the magical world behind. The glowing stone pendant that transported her is now bringing strange creatures to life against her will, with her paper-mache pterodactyl and even scrambled eggs suddenly moving about on their own. Lily tries to pretend that everything is normal, but when her friend Cedric the dragon appears to tell her that an illness has taken over the kingdom, troubling questions haunt her. Where is Prince Pax? If he can save the Somnium Realm like he did before, why won’t he stop the blight? Lily and her friends must return to Castle Iridyll to find out.

In this sequel to The Dragon and the Stone, Kathryn Butler takes middle-grade readers on an unforgettable adventure that mixes fantasy with biblical concepts. As young readers join Lily’s exciting quest, they’ll explore what it means to trust in God’s faithfulness, even when he feels distant.
