Review
This sci-fi/dystopian novel is the coolest book ever!!!!! I had no idea where it was going, how it was ending and who was going to win!
This book is about Cain Cross, a young man stuck in a dying world… When the dream technology came out, everyone loved it! Till it stole their minds and loved ones… Now everyone has the Nightmare virus and there’s no cure… Cain isn’t certain what to do anymore. But when he gets the virus, it’s different than he thought. There’s a whole world in the dreamscape, and everyone is fighting to the death to get a spot in it…
This book is a truly unique sci-fi adventure!!!! I love Nadine Brandes, and her books never disappoint. (Do they sometimes scare you? Yes. But they never disappoint!) This book is a Christian, dystopian, adventure filled with action and awesomeness!!!! I couldn’t get enough of this book and almost missed work cause I wanted one more chapter!
Now, there is violence and dark topics in the book. People’s bodies are dying while they live in the Nightmare Virus. There is mention of blood, death, wounds, killing, knifes, guns and more. There is some violence but it isn’t too gory, 13 and up. There is mention of desperate people taking advantage of others. (At one point, some guys find a sleeping girl and make some cruel remarks, but Cain saves her) You can expect an end-of-the-world kind-of adventure. This isn’t a Disney movie y’all, it’s better!
Overall, I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!! I just wanted more and more! This is such a great Christian adventure, and one I totally suggest to teen boys! Happy Reading! -The Young Llama Reader.
Pros
- An amazing sci-fi novel!!!
- Great for boys 13 and up!
Cons
- Dark topics…
Some viruses go after the body. But the Nightmare Virus goes after the mind.
When dream technology goes wrong, a virus spreads across the globe, trapping people in a universal dreamscape. They call it the Nightmare Virus.
Cain Cross is determined to find a cure . . . if he can decipher his brother’s chicken-scratch formula notes. But when he gets infected, he has only 22 days until he’s trapped in the mental prison forever. Now, every time he falls asleep, he must fight in a Nightmare Arena until he earns his freedom to live in the “new world” that exists only in the mind.
Then he finds a way to manipulate the Nightmare—to change it by mere thought.
Forced to navigate a world of nightbeasts, mistblades, and half-truths, Cain turns his focus to survival. When the Emperor offers him a LifeSuPod—and access to a cure—in exchange for a dangerous favor, Cain thinks he’s found a way out. But Cain’s new power threatens to take him on paths that jeopardize his very soul.
Will he continue searching for a cure, or will he swear allegiance to the Nightmare? And the bigger question might be . . . will he even have a choice?
