Review

This Christian novel is basically a western! Set in a small town filled with danger, romance and suspense; this is a great book for young ladies 13 and up!

This book is about Livy O’Brien, a reformed pick-pocket who has a new mission in life. To help those like her, the children living on the streets. But Livy is running into issue after issue in the new town, with folks not trusting a bunch on orphans. Especially since somebody is stealing from the people of the town. Now with distrust arising, kids on the street starving and a cold winter coming in fast; Livy will have to trust Jake Russell, the Sheriff’s deputy who would arrest her on the spot if he knew who she was…

This book was very good! With sweet romantic moments, intense suspense and heartwarming friendships. I really enjoyed the mystery and loved the plot line! The whole novel was very well written and overall a great read. I think girls 13 and up would love this historical, Christian romance!!!

Now there are some dark topics in the book. Mention of living on the streets. Eating garbage and fighting for life. There is mention of giving birth on the street and not surviving. As well as mention of children enslavement. In the book, kids are shipped in crates to work in a factory against their will. (Which is horrible!) There is mention of kids getting caught, hurt, sick. As well as mention of the owners killing off kids who won’t listen. (The good news is that the kids don’t die! Yes it’s horrible, but this book is about hope for these children)

Overall, even with the hard topics, this book is a really good read! Full of love, hope and finding family; this is a book that I definitely suggest to teens. Happy Readings! -The Young Llama Reader.

Pros

  • A wonderful Christian Western!!!
  • Sweet romance!
  • Clean read for girls 13 and up!!!

Cons

  • Mention of violence and dark topics…

When Livy O’Brien spies a young boy jostling a man walking along the boardwalk, she recognizes the act for what it is. After all, she used to be known as Light-Fingered Livy.

But that was before she put her past behind her and moved to the growing town of Chestnut, Illinois, where she’s helping to run an orphanage. Now she’ll do almost anything to protect the street kids like herself.

Sheriff’s deputy Jake Russell had no idea what he was in for when he ran into Livy―literally while chasing down a pickpocket.

With a rash of robberies and a growing number of street kids in town―as well as a loan on the family farm that needs to be paid off―Jake doesn’t have time to pursue a girl.

Still, he can’t seem to get Livy out of his mind. He wants to get to know her better . . . but Livy isn’t willing to trust any man, especially not a lawman.
