Review

When I saw this book I thought it would be a fun adventure for girls; but when I saw that it was about Katharine Wright, the sister to the famous Wright brothers, I was totally sold!

This book is about Katharine Wright, the younger sister in a family of boys. Katharine is unlike your everyday young women. She has never found love, never been quiet and never cares about what people think. So when one of her students it found guilty of murder, she steps up to help solve the case. Mostly because it could tie in her famous brothers and ruin their careers… But as Katharine digs deeper into the mystery, she finds more than she signed up for!

This book was really fascinating! With murder, adventure, mystery and suspense; girls 12 and up will read this series in no time!!! The fun facts about the Wright family really make this book that more interesting. And the murder and suspense, keeps you reading till the last page!

Now there is violence in the book. Some blood mention as well as death. All pretty clean though. But there are some darker topics brought up in the book. There is mention of a women being “pressured” by a man to do stuff. Mention of being touched on the hand and waist that leads to more. Nothing ever happens, but it is brought up. (Which is why this is a teen book…)

Overall, I did really enjoy this book. I just wish there was romance to tie it all together… However, I read Katharin‘s story and she doesn’t get a lot of romance in real life, so the series based off of her doesn’t either… Other than that! This is a fabulous series!!!! -The Young Llama Reader.

Pros

  • A very good book for girls 12 and up!
  • Historical based!!!

Cons

  • Violence and death mentioned…
  • Some older topics…

December 1903: While Wilbur and Orville Wright’s flying machine is quite literally taking off in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina with its historic fifty-seven second flight, their sister Katharine is back home in Dayton, Ohio, running the bicycle shop, teaching Latin, and looking after the family. A Latin teacher and suffragette, Katharine is fiercely independent, intellectual, and the only Wright sibling to finish college. But at twenty-nine, she’s frustrated by the gender inequality in academia and is looking for a new challenge. She never suspects it will be sleuthing…

Returning home to Dayton, Wilbur and Orville accept an invitation to a friend’s party. Nervous about leaving their as-yet-unpatented flyer plans unattended, Wilbur decides to bring them to the festivities . . . where they are stolen right out from under his nose. As always, it’s Katharine’s job to problem solve—and in this case, crime-solve.

As she sets out to uncover the thief among their circle of friends, Katharine soon gets more than she bargained for: She finds her number one suspect dead with a letter opener lodged in his chest. It seems the patent is the least of her brothers’ worries. They have a far more earthbound concern—prison. Now Katharine will have to keep her feet on the ground and put all her skills to work to make sure Wilbur and Orville are free to fly another day.
