The 1st summer book list is here!!! I hope you enjoy it, I worked extra hard this year to pick some books that I haven’t had on my lists before. This list would be for girls 8 and up. All of the books have reviews on youngllama.com that you can look up and see if this is a book for you!
10. The Tail of Emily Windsnap by Liz Kessler This is such a fun, magical series about a young girl who is half-mer! Very clean, with some magical references to Neptune, krakens and such. Great for girls 8 and up! (I have only read books 1-5. Those are the ones I suggest)
9. The Wide-Awake Princess by E.D. Baker This series is a cute retake on classic fairytales! Filled with romance, adventure and magical problems, this book is soooo cute and great for girls 8 and up! There are some funny references to other stories, like how Rapunzel sees a different guy everyday, or how the beast is a ogre. Nothing inappropriate, it’s totally clean.
8. Flunked by Jen Calonita I just love this series! It’s filled with funny adventures in magical places and it’s all about becoming a better person with or without magic. Such a great read for girls 9 and up, this series is a fairytale adventure that will keep you laughing till the end! There are magic curses and spells throughout the book, but they are very Disney like. Totally clean.
7. The Sisters Grimm by Michael Buckley A fabulous adventure set in a world of fairytales heroes and villains trapped in a magical town filled with chaos! With action, a bit of violence and a war between the Grimms and the magical, this book series is amazing!!!!! It would be great for kids 10 and up!
6. Song for a Whale by Lynne Kelly This beautiful novel is about a deaf girl finding a whale with a song no one can hear. It’s beautiful, heartwarming and just perfection!!!! I love the storyline and the characters. It is a great representation of the deaf world. A great book for girls 9 and up!
5. The Lost Frost Girl by Amy Wilson I have loved this book for years! It’s about Jack Frost’s daughter and is set in a world of mythical figures bringing nature to life on Earth. A great read full of magic and chaos, girls 8 and up would love it!!!!
4. Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger My all time favorite series! Kotlc is a wonderful adventure story filled with elves hidden in our world, fighting for good against a evil that shouldn’t exist. It’s funny, action packed, adventurous and totally amazing! Books 1-9 are fantastic! Book 8.5 is also a fun read, however book 9.5 is when the author went woke so be warned on that novel. Great for girls 10 and up!
3. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett A classic that is truly amazing, the Secret Garden is a book girls 8 and up would adore! It’s about love, forgiveness and hope, set in 1900’s. The story is so much fun, and I just love the book!
2. The Dream Keeper Saga by Kathryn Butler Is a Christian adventure that is set in the world between dream and awake. Filled with interesting characters and magical creatures, this is a book I totally suggest to girls 8 and up who love a Narnia-like adventure!
1. The Ogress and the Orphans by Kelly Barnhill My number one book suggestion for this summer is The Ogress and the Orphans!!!! A stunning novel about finding beauty on the inside, set in a town of selfish people, hopeless orphans and one loving and kind ogress. It has magic and adventure, kindness and love, and a beautiful story about changing your world. A great book for girls 8 and up!
