Review

I adore this series!!! I just got this book, (my fabulous mom found it for me!) and I was completely obsessed with it! The adventure is amazing, the action super clean and fun, and the focus on trusting God over all your fears is written perfectly for kids 8 and up! Ready for a fantastic Christian kids series?

This book is about Lily, a young girl with the weight of the world on her shoulders. When her father died 2 months ago, she thought it couldn’t get any worse. But with her moms consent exhaustion, her grandmother’s illness getting worse and Adam the bully at school who won’t leave her alone; Lily is convinced she’s losing it. Especially when she sees a dragon in her kitchen. But everything changes before she knows it, and now Lily is taken to the Realm between dreams and wake and on a quest to save her world. With hope, faith and trust, Lily fights through the evils of the Realm to save her family once and for all!

This novel was amazing!!! It felt like a Narnia-like adventure, but so much more focused on kids!!!!!!!! (You know that Millie Maven series by Ted Dekker? It’s like that but soooo less violent!) I just adored the adventure throughout the book! It was sooooooo well written and totally amazing! And the Christian theme was so clear and perfect for kids. This book totally deserves the Golden Llama Award!

Now there is some violence in the book. People get burned, scratched and hurt. Mention of being attacked by monsters and evil forces. (You know, angels verses demons kind-of stuff. But clean for kids. More like knights verses dragons, harpies and trolls.) Some mention of blood and wounds, however it is all very clean. Not detailed or described. Just like the blood soaked through the bandages and stuff.

Overall, I LOVE THIS SERIES! And guess what?!?! It’s a 5 book series. I can not wait for the rest for the books! The Dream Keeper Saga is a series perfect for kids 8 and up! Enjoy!!!! -The Young Llama Reader.

Pros

  • Such an amazing series!!!
  • Perfect for kids 8 and up!
  • A fantastic Christian novel!!!

Cons

  • Violence and some evil forces…

Even though she’s only 12 years old, Lily McKinley already feels the weight of the world’s brokenness. She’s seen it in her mother’s exhaustion, her grandmother’s illness, and the cruelty of Adam, the bully at her school. But most tragically, she experienced it two months ago when her father died in a terrible accident.

As an artistic daydreamer, Lily has a brilliant imagination to help her cope, but that imagination often gets her into trouble. One day, it transports her to a fantasy world called the Somnium Realm, where her father’s secret history embroils her in an epic quest. With the help of a dragon guide named Cedric, Lily battles evil shrouds, harpies, and other creatures to find her way through grief, rescue the world from evil, and discover the power of redemption.

This thrilling novel by Kathryn Butler mixes fantasy with Christian themes, taking middle-grade readers on a quest through castles, forests, and caverns to help a young girl find hope and usher in restoration.
