Review
This story is inspiring, funny and filled with adventure and mystery! My favorite part is the fact that you don’t get all the answers in the book, but you do find the meaning of family.
This book is about a girl named Crow. Found at sea just hours old, Crow never really knew where she came from. All she knows is her adopted family and that everyone on the island is scared of her because she’s different. So when she starts piecing together her past it leads her to places she never thought possible and mysteries filled with dark secrets…
This book was amazing! (No wonder it won awards!) The mystery surrounding the plot was written wonderful! The characters were hilarious and I loved the story! This is a great novel about how family isn’t always blood, but sometimes it’s those who stay with you through the difficult times. Boys and girls 10 and up would love this book!
There are some dark topics in it. Mention of judging people because they’re different. Mention of diseases and people being afraid. Some violence, blood, kidnapping, threatening and such. A guy starved and weak from imprisonment, and there is one mention of him covering himself because his clothes were ruined. Nothing is described.
Overall, this is a very clean read! And a fun one!!! I totally suggest it and I hope you all have a Blessed Day! -The Young Llama Reader.
Pros
- An amazing story about family!!!
- Great for kids 10 and up!
Cons
- Violence and dark topics…
The moving story of an orphan, determined to know her own history, who discovers the true meaning of family.
Twelve-year-old Crow has lived her entire life on a tiny, isolated piece of the starkly beautiful Elizabeth Islands in Massachusetts. Abandoned and set adrift in a small boat when she was just hours old, Crow’s only companions are Osh, the man who rescued and raised her, and Miss Maggie, their fierce and affectionate neighbor across the sandbar.
Crow has always been curious about the world around her, but it isn’t until the night a mysterious fire appears across the water that the unspoken question of her own history forms in her heart. Soon, an unstoppable chain of events is triggered, leading Crow down a path of discovery and danger.
