Review

This classic is a wonderful book about hope, friendship and adventure! A novel that will keep you reading till midnight, this is a great read for kids 8 and up who love classic literature!

This book is about twelve-year-old Marco Loristan, a boy who has trained his whole life to fight for his home country of Samavia. But Marco has never even been to Samavia. So when his father finally decides it’s time to fight for their country, Marco is ready. And he and his best friend begin the journey of traveling Europe to light the fire that will rise up and free his people! And it all starts with the long lost prince…

I have seriously enjoyed Frances Hodgson Burnett’s books! But The Lost Prince really takes a turn from the rest! This book is FULL of adventure! The plot is always moving and changing and the mystery is totally stunning!!! I loved this book sooooo much and totally suggest it. Boys 8 and up would enjoy it, (if they like reading classics that is) families would love it together! Honestly this book is one of my new favorite reads!

Now there is violence in the book. Mention of a country at war. Talk of death, blood, gore and such. Samavia is a country full of despair and hopelessness. So even though this book is about hope, it does have some dark topics as well. It is also written 100 years ago so it has a different writing style then some are used too.

Overall, this book was a gorgeous tale of a brave boy fighting for his homeland that he has never seen! I loved every chapter of it and totally suggest it. If you are looking for a new classic to read, this is the book for you! -The Young Llama Reader.

Pros

  • A wonderful classic!
  • Filled with adventure, action and mystery!!!
  • Great for boys 8 and up!

Cons

  • Mention of war, blood and such.

Twelve-year-old Marco Loristan has spent his life moving from place to place with his father, Stefan, always hiding their heritage. Their home country of Samavia has been in turmoil ever since the king was overthrown five hundred years ago, and now its people are forced to fight in the armies of warring factions. But legend has it that the heir of the true king escaped, and his descendant is waiting until the time is right to reclaim the throne and restore peace to the country.

While living in London, Marco learns of a secret his father has been hiding: Stefan knows the identity of the lost prince and that he’ll reveal himself soon. But they have to spread the word to the prince’s supporters. And to do that, they’ll need a messenger who can escape the notice of the current ruler’s spies—someone like a young boy.

With the help of an orphan he befriends in London, Marco is tasked with traveling across Europe to share the news, preparing the way for the lost prince to return.
