Review
I am totally in love with Mary Mecham’s books, but this one may be my favorite! And it’s probably my fav because the main character is Deaf!
This book is about Treva, a Deaf blacksmith who would rather build weapons than have small talk. But when her island is starving due to the siren war, she discovers she is immune to their call. So she starts a one-women war and hunts the killers. But when one saves her, Treva starts wondering who is the real evil… Afterall, is a siren, but he saved her and is helping her… And she might just be falling in love with the man she was sent to kill…
This book was amazing!!!! The action and adventure was totally awesome! I loved the plot line, but the characters were what sold me on the novel. Treva’s Deaf, Bayne is mute, and they fall in love while signing to eachother and saving their people!!!!!!! I loved every chapter and totally suggest this book to young ladies 14 and up!
Now there is some violence in the book. Mention of people being drowned by the sirens, or mention of the sirens being killed and blood in the water. There is mention of being cut or injured as well. It isn’t too gory, but violence is brought up. There is also mention of Bayne’s (the siren) chest quite a bit. He’s shirtless throughout the book and it is brought up. But it is all very clean. (I still wish he had a shirt.)
Overall, this is a book I totally suggest and a series that I am currently obsessed with!!!! If you are looking for Fairy-tale rewrites filled with suspense and action, the Legends of Neverland is the series for you! Happy Readings! -The Young Llama Reader.
Pros
- A fabulous fantasy read!!!!
- Great for girls 14 and up!
Cons
- Mention of death and violence…

She was destined to hunt sirens to extinction… but can she complete her mission before one of them captures her heart?
