Review

This book is an awesome, historical, adventure perfect for girls 14 and up! Filled with romance, action and a bit of confusion, this Christian-friendly novel is a stunning read!!!!

This book is set in 1075, nine years after the Norman Conquest. Aliwyn is a healer trying to help her village after the passing of her mentor. But when rebels start revolting against the king, Aliwyn isn’t certain where to go. And after getting involved with the rebel leader, Tobias, Aliwyn is on an adventure that she didn’t want and isn’t certain she can ever go home…

This book is amazing while also being a bit confusing if you don’t know anything about the Revolt of the Earls. (Which is not what it is called in the book because it is titled later) I will say the book was fascinating and soooo much fun!!!! The adventure was wild, the characters super interesting and plot line totally fabulous! I can not wait to read the rest of the series when it comes out!

Now there is a LOT of violence in the book. (Not surprising since it is a revolt and all) People get shot, stabbed, hung and such. Mention of arrows, daggers and swords. There is blood, open wounds and death. There is a lot of injures and such. It isn’t gory but it can be a bit nauseating. The war and death make this book for older teens.

Overall, this is a wildly interesting book and one I totally suggest to young ladies 14 and up!!!! It’s thrilling, interesting and totally confusing! I can’t wait for book 2. -The Young Llama Reader.

Pros

  • Great for girls 14 and up!!!

  • Historical!

Cons

  • Lots of violence, war and death…

A healer on the run. A rogue knight bound by secrets. Love was never part of the plan.

Eighteen-year-old healer Aliwyn lives in shame after her medical failures. Despite a rebellion brewing against William the Conqueror, she yearns to practice medicine in peace.

But when she hides an endangered orphan, Aliwyn is plunged into the deadly revolt. A daring escape entangles her with the young rebel leader, Tobias, and she is swept into a world of rival factions and secret alliances. Caught in the heart of the insurgents’ army, she must decide who to save. Worst of all, Tobias’ compassionate nature turns her perceptions of the enemy upside down.

As she unravels the rebels’ fiery secret that could destroy England, Aliwyn is challenged to take fate into her own hands. Will she rise to save her kingdom? And can she resist the magnetic charms of the man she’s vowed to defeat?
