Review
This book was sent to me by Baker Book House for my review. And it was a pretty good read, however it was a bit slow as well. (Took me like a week and a half to get through…)
This book is about Josephina, a young girl escaping the scandal her family left behind in her small town. So when a job opens up to restore a lighthouse on a North Carolina island, Joey jumps at the opportunity, not knowing that secrets, ghosts, rumors and legends might keep her from finishing the job. When the secrets start leading to danger at every turn, Joey must team up with her bosses grandson to find the answers to the mystery.
So the book was interesting, it had a good plot line, fun characters and such. The cover is gorgeous! (I love cover art!) However, I found the book very slow. It felt like the writing style was for younger kids, the story was kind-of cheesy and the overall feel was just eh… (Which I don’t like saying because the author worked hard on this novel, but it was just a bit bland for my taste.)
There is some violence in the book. Mention of WW2, death, scars, bodies and such. Nothing is overly described, only mentioned in passing. The book is very clean, with only like 2 adult things mentioned. One where a guy had a baby with a girl and another where there was a misunderstanding when a girl slept in a guys hotel room while he was away. NOTHING happens, nothing is described, only mentioned.
Overall, the book was an ok read. I do suggest the novel, it wasn’t bad, just a bit dull for me. If you are looking for a book about history, a sweet slow romance and mystery this would be a good book for you. -The Young Llama Reader.

Every family has its secrets. Josephina Harris wouldn’t mind if her family still had a few of their own after a lawsuit tarnishes their name. When an opportunity opens to become a temporary keeper of a decommissioned lighthouse on a North Carolina island, she jumps at the chance to escape her small town to oversee its restoration.
As the work begins, “Joey” discovers strange notes tucked deep in the crevices of the old stone walls–pages torn from a lighthouse keeper’s log signed by someone named Mae who recounts harrowing rescues at sea. Fascinated by a woman lighthouse keeper, Joey digs into the past only to discover there’s never been a record of a lighthouse keeper by that name.
When things start to go amiss on the island, locals are convinced that it is the ghost of the lighthouse keeper and his daughter who were lost at sea during World War II. As Joey sifts through decades of rumors and legends and puts together the pieces of the past, what emerges is a love story–one that’s not over yet.
