Review
This book was sent to me by Baker Book House for my review. It was a pretty good read and one I do suggest, just not one of my favorites. It would be a very clean novel for ladies 18 and up to read.
This book is about a women who has escaped a rough family situation with her 5 year-old daughter, and has now settled down in a new town to start a new life. But when her pottery gets destroyed in a fire one night, it seems maybe Landry Hutton didn’t escape her past after all… Now she is teaming up with Callum Shaw, a man determined not to fall in love again and get hurt, but can’t seem to stop thinking about Landry. Will they make it out with their lives and their hearts still intact, or will someone do anything to keep them apart?…
This was a good book, I enjoyed the mystery and sweet romance build up. The characters were written well and the plot line was fun. There was suspense and mystery, but not as much as previous books by this author. This novel was a bit slower and more down to earth than her other books.
There is some violence in the book. Mention of car crashes, fires, wars, death and such. Mention of kidnapping and people being afraid. Some PTSD brought up. As well as mention of people manipulating others and abuse. Mention of a husband mistreating his wife and a pastor’s family who wasn’t very Christian. Hence the need for this book to be for ladies 18 and up.
Overall, I enjoyed this novel but it wasn’t one of my favorites. I felt like the story was a bit slow and it took me a few days to read because I wasn’t that invested. I do suggest it but it’s not my kind-of fast-paced, adventure book. Happy Spring y’all!!! -The Young Llama Reader.
Pros
- A sweet read for ladies 18 and up!
- Romantic, interesting and engaging!!!
Cons
- Mention of adult topics…
Landry Hutton has spent three years rebuilding her life behind the secure gates of The Haven, an exclusive resort on the outskirts of Gossamer Falls, North Carolina. After serving as the artist-in-residence, Landry is finally ready to settle in permanently to give her daughter, Eliza, a safe home in which to grow up.
Former Marine Callum Shaw always knew he would someday join his family’s construction business in Gossamer Falls. He longs for a family of his own but has almost given up on that ever happening. The beautiful artist who has hired him to build her new house is funny, gifted, and everything Cal could ever want in a partner, but he vows to keep his distance. He’s loved–and lost–someone like her before.
When Landry’s pottery is destroyed in a suspicious fire, it becomes clear that Landry and Eliza are in grave danger–but from whom? Cal will have to risk his heart again if he has any hope of protecting them.
