Review

I just love when Christian-fiction is funny, adventurous with a magical twist! It’s like Narnia, except with art, secrets and dark mysterious enemies that kidnapped children and vanish into paintings!!!! (Also that cover is fabulous!!!)

This book is about Vincent, a teenager who is ready to be done with art forever. But that’s kind-of hard when  his parents teach it. But when his little sister disappears into Starry Night, Vincent gets the shock of his life! His family are Restorationists, talented travelers able to enter art. And Vincent can too. Now on a quest to find his sister and maybe some answers to all his questions, he and his cousin Georgia might just be the only ones who can save Lili and some of the most famous paintings in the world!!!!

This book was amazing!!!! I just loved the adventure, the action was engaging, the mystery is fantastic and the plot line was perfection! Honestly, the book is just super clean and very interesting. It is a great, God-focused series for kids 9 and up! Great for boys and girls alike!

The only warnings I should give is that their is some mention of violence. Mention of people fighting, mention of a fire killing people in the past and mention of kids being kidnapped. Plus there is a chapter where the kids have to travel through a painting of naked figures. Which brings up the fact that is just part of the art world, but the one kid thinks it’s gross. (Which it is people!) The painting isn’t described, it just says a naked painting. It’s a totally clean chapter, just weird.

Overall, I am soooo excited to find another Christian kids book series!!!!! I need books 2 and 3! This book is very clean for kids 9 and up. It’s funny, filled with adventure and such a great story about trust and hope. Happy Good Friday! -The Young Llama Reader.

Pros

  • An AMAZING series for kids 9 and up!
  • Funny, filled with adventure and super interesting!!!
  • A great Christian novel about art!

Cons

  • Some mention of violence.
  • A few mentions of paintings of naked figures.

After an experience he’d rather forget, Vincent is determined to be done with art. So when he and his little sister, Lili, spend spring break with their art conservator great-uncle, Vincent’s plan is to stay glued to his phone.

That is, until Lili disappears into one of the world’s most famous paintings and Vincent learns his parents have been hiding something from him: Their family is the last of The Restorationists, a secret society with the power to travel through paintings—and a duty to protect them from evil forces.

With Lili’s safety on the line, leaving art behind is no longer an option. Vincent must team up with his know-it-all second-cousin Georgia, wrestle with why his parents lied to him, and confront both his past and a future he never wanted. Young readers are invited into a captivating universe where paintings become a portal—and adventure and danger lurk beyond every canvas.
