Review

I have a problem with heist books. I just love them soooo much!!! Loot was such a good novel, that I was just so excited to read Sting, which is the conclusion to the story!

This book is about March McQuinn, the son of a famous jewel thief. When his father died, March had nothing. But now after finding his long, lost twin sister and making their own home after selling the gem their dad left them; life seems to be looking up. That is till they do a favor for a friend which leads to them losing their money, angering a vicious gang, being trailed by the FBI and accidentally waking up a ghost that haunts whoever holds the Morning Star Sapphire. Now it is up to the 4 friends to fix their mistakes and put thieving behind them once and for all!

Wow was this book good! It’s fun, interesting and has plenty of plot twists!!!! It’s a great novel for boys 9 and up who love a good heist movie! It’s pretty clean with only a few cuss words here and there. Some minor violence and people threatening others. Plus mention of a mother asking her son if he is having boyfriend problems. This is also brought up in book 1. But each book only has 1 mention of the LGBT content.

Now the only real warning I need to give is that the books focus on cursed jewels a lot. Mention of people fighting and dying over precious stones. Mention of a ghost who haunts anyone who holds the Star Sapphires. In the book she is seen when the wind outlines a curtain and with a trail of wet footprints. Plus the kids feel a presence in the room sometimes and she can only be contained in seven boxes of a special wood. Now the book doesn’t make it out to be voo-doo or anything. There isn’t magic, just a mystery of some jewels that might be cursed. It’s totally clean for kids.

Overall, this was a fantastic squeal to a already amazing novel! I loved how it begin, ended and I basically just love it in general! Boys and girls 9 and up would love this funny, adventurous heist. -The Young Llama Reader.

Pros

  • An amazing heist book for kids!
  • Full of mystery, action and curses!!!

Cons

  • Violence mentioned…
  • Mention of a boy having boyfriend issues.
Never do a favor for a friend. Twelve-year-old March McQuin forgot rule number one for cat burglars, which is how he and his twin sister, Jules, found themselves dangling upside down twenty feet above a stone floor at three in the morning.
Their target was a set of stunning diamonds and it should have been an easy job, in and out. Except another thief got there first. March and Jules were lucky to escape with their lives, and one measly stone. Now the botched heist has created a world of trouble.
The stone they grabbed was the Morning Star, one of a trio of famous sapphires, and it’s cursed. The theft put the twins and their friends in the crosshairs of Interpol, the FBI, and a vicious adult gang of international criminals. And worst of all, the only way to break the curse and set everything to rights is by somehow managing to steal the other two sapphires in the set.Break out the black gloves. Lay out the masks. There’s a full moon coming, and jewels to steal…
