Review

I just LOVE this book! And I mean LOVE!!!! I read the first book forever ago, (back when it was called The Lost Frost Girl, not A Girl Called Owl) so when I saw book 2 was a reality I lost my marbles a bit…

This book is about Owl, a not-so-normal girl trying to survive a never ending summer. Living in the real world, while knowing about the Fay world isn’t always easy; especially when Owl is actually Jack Frost’s daughter. So when she and her friend Mallory notice the summer is actually never ending, they realize somethings wrong. And when their friend Alberic, son of the Earl of October is missing, it’s up to them to travel deep into Time itself to save their friend and possibly the world… What could go wrong?

This book was amazing!!! I am a sucker for any magical adventure (as long as it is clean) so this one was truly awesome! The author takes you into so many different magical worlds, all while pulling out myths and legends and re-writing them into an amazing new story! The novel is about friendship and trusting yourself, and I desperately hope there’s a book 3!!!!

Now there is a lot of magic in the book. All clean, no voo-doo. But it’s a big focus. There are creatures like goblins and fairies that serve the Elements and Seasons. Mother Earth reigns over them all, and Father Time is also in the book. (Though he is cuckoo crazy!) The magic is not dark, it’s just these great guardians over the world who control the seasons and the weather. Totally clean, it’s just folklore.

Another thing I should mention. It seems like the author rewrote her first book? It has a new title and cover, plus some of the characters got new names. (Alberic was originally Avery) Confusing, but I guess she wanted to do some things differently? I haven’t read the new rewrite, but I probably will just to see if it’s the same as the old book.

Overall, what a amazing book!!!!!!! I love the magical adventure. It is totally clean for kids 10 and up! And I don’t even mind the name changes because the story is still fantastic!!!!!!! If you are looking for a clean, funny, interesting Folklore inspired book for kids, I have the one for you! (But read book 1 first!) -The Young Llama Reader.

Pros

  • An amazing magical adventure!
  • Great for girls 10 and up!!!
  • Super clean and fun!

Cons

  • Lots of magic and Fay talk.

Being stuck in an eternal summer is not fun. Especially when you’re Jack Frost’s daughter.

Owl’s friend Alberic – who also happens to be the Earl of Autumn’s son – is missing. Determined to find him and end the perpetual summer, Owl and her best friend Mallory embark on an adventure that will take them deep into the magical world of time itself.

But Alberic’s disappearance is shrouded in secret, and there’s more going on than meets the eye. As an epic battle of the elements approaches, will Owl and Alberic be able to control their magic and restore the natural world?

Lose yourself in this glittering story of friendship, nature and the elements told with Amy Wilson’s trademark magic and heart.
