I did not think I would enjoy this book as much as I did! James Patterson didn’t seem like a author who would write for young girls but this book was totally adorable and totally fabulous! (Which now has me thinking there was a female ghost writer involved. Or Mr. Patterson is really in touch with him feminine side 🙂 )
This book is about Jacky Hart, a middle child in a family of 7 girls. And the only true way for her to stand out is her stutter or her sense of humor. So obviously she uses her sense of humor, sometimes for good, mostly for bad. But when Jacky gets into more trouble than before, it looks like she will be joining the school play and making a speech to save her life! (Or at least her grade) And turns out play acting is a load of fun! It definitely helps get her mind of her mom serving in the Persian Gulf and her dad not being home a lot and working with the pretty lifeguard. Or her older sister not being home, or her struggles in school…
This book was really good. I loved the plot line, Jacky was a amazing character and the artwork was really cute! It’s like this book is a girls version of Diary of a Wimpy Kid and I totally suggest it! It has a great story about friendship, trust, family and using your gifts for good not bad! What a great novel for young girls 7 and up!
Now there are some mention of sad parts. Mention of war, guns and such. Praying that her mom returns safely. Mention of people passing and older folks having health issues. Mention of the dad hanging out with a different women, and the daughters worrying. (Nothing happens, but there is mention of dates and such. It’s just an misunderstanding.) Plus a weird part where Jacky says Him or Her when referring to God. (Spoiler alert, God’s a dude!) I don’t think there was a agenda or anything.
Overall, LOVE! Totally suggest this book to girls, it is very clean and totally great! I just really enjoyed this novel and can’t wait to read book 2! If you are looking for a fun, clean book for girls! Here it is. -The Young Llama Reader.
