Review

This novel really surprised me! With deadly adventures, helpful ghosts, a school of secrets and plenty threats, be prepared for an amazing book about friendship and finding the power within…

This novel is about Rosie Frost. A girl who has always been an outsider, made fun of and picked on. So when her mother dies unexpectedly, Rosie wasn’t prepared to be sent to a school that feels almost magical if not dangerous. And the only way to discover the mystery her mother left for her is to win the schools famous Falcon Queen Games. But not all is as it seems. With ghosts around every corner, and lives on the line; Rosie might be in for more than she wanted…

This story was soooo good! Amazingly well written, great plot line, super interesting characters and a magical twist! This is a novel worth reading!!!! I really loved the focus on friendship, trust and hope. The finding the power within you to change your world was a great theme, and I think girls 11 and up would absolutely love this book!!!!

Now there is violence in the book. The girl is afraid of blood. She has nose bleeds all the time, there is other mention of blood with scrapes and such. Plus mention of a beheaded bird. Gross but not described. There is also a ghost in the book. (Sadly not the Holy Ghost 😉 ) It is the ghost of Anne Boleyn before she was beheaded and she helps Rosie throughout the novel. Honestly I thought it brought a lot of interest to the book. It was fun and very whimsical. Not voodoo-y at all. Just a ghost helping where it can.

Overall, what a great read!!!!! Totally one of my new favorite books and one I very much suggest! If you are looking for a magical adventure full of danger and fun, this is the novel for you! -The Young Llama Reader.

Pros

  • A whimsical adventure!!!
  • Magic, chaos and fun!!!
  • A great novel for girls 11 and up!

Cons

  • Some violence and mention of blood…
  • Ghosts.

It’s time to find your power.

Suddenly orphaned and alone, Rosie Frost is sent to the mysterious Bloodstone Island—home not only to a school for extraordinary teens, but also a sanctuary for endangered species. There, Rosie confronts a menacing deputy headmaster, a group of mean kids intent on destroying her, and shocking family secrets. She also discovers that history can come to life in ways she never could have imagined.

When the island itself comes under threat, Rosie knows she must enter and win the Falcon Queen games in a desperate bid to save it.

But Rosie can’t do it alone. She finds that believing in herself—and her friends—is the first step to finding the power she never knew she had.
