This book was sent to me by Baker Book House for my review. And if you are looking for a historical accurate book about saving horses in Poland during World War 2, this is the novel for you!
This book is about Adia, a horse trainer in Poland looking after the famous Janów Podlaski horses. But when World War 2 happens, Adia decides to evacuate the horses saving them from being stolen, sold or eaten by the Nazi’s. However the only one who will help her is the man who abandoned her on their first date. Now Adia has to trust Bret Conway, but his secrets might just get them both killed…
This book is filled to the brim with history about the Janów Podlaski stables and the beautiful horses they raised. The facts are astonishing and the story is so well written! I loved the sweet romance and heroic battles. The plot line was very interesting and very engaging!!!
However, there is death in the book. Mention of people getting shot and killed. Mentions of bodies, both humans and horses. Mention of blood, illness, starving and such. Pus mention of a women almost being assaulted. This is a novel about WW 2… It’s not funny or cute. It’s a bit heartbreaking but still inspiring. My only real issue with the book is the fact that the stable hands were more concerned about saving the horses than people at times… God values human lives waaayy more than a horse. I understand the value of the breed I guess? But still…
Overall, this novel was very good but hard to read at times. Both heart-warming and sad, this book would be a great read for girls 13 and up. I hope you all have a book-filled day! -The Young Llama Reader.
