I just love fairy-tales! Especially fairy-tales like this book set in a different era and passed down through generations! (Super cool!) Nothing like a historic story being retold in a different historic timeline!
This book is set in 1894 following a young girl working in the cotton mills trying to keep her family together and her life intact. But when she finds a mysterious spindle suddenly she is trust into a world of fairy-tales she thought didn’t exist. Now the girls in the cotton mill are catching a sleeping sickness, her family is falling apart and Briar Rose might just be the next target of the evil fairy…
This book was fantastic! I just loved the adventure, magic and storyline!!!! It is very clean with only some violence here and there and the magic is very clean (Think Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo) and not creepy or anything. I really love the idea of generations passing down the fairy-tales and this author has just written it sooo well! I totally suggest this series to girls 16 and up who love a good magical adventure!
Now the only ‘con’ in the book is that there is some violence. People get hurt, sick, injured. Cotton mills are dangerous places and there is mention of how the girls have to be careful or their hair and clothes could get caught in the spinning frames. Also (bit of a spoiler) one person falls on a frame and gets stabbed by the spindles. It isn’t too descriptive but it is mentioned.
Overall, this book was amazing! I totally loved it, can’t wait to read again and complete the series!!!! The magic is clean. the violence is minimal; this is such a great series!!!!!!! Hope you all have a Blessed day! -The Young Llama Reader.

Hidden for generations, Sleeping Beauty’s cursed spindle resurfaces…
In 1894 Vermont, Briar Rose is determined to keep her orphaned siblings together. She’s set her sights on marrying an ambitious young man to take them out of the cotton mills and back to the Old Country. Trouble is, he no longer cares for her.
Childhood chum Henry Prince would like to step in, but sweet as he is, can’t offer her what her family needs.
When a peddler gives Briar a spindle made from fairy wood said to have magical properties, she has a chance to keep her family together. Desperate to increase her production at the mill, she sneaks the spindle onto her spinning frame.
But Briar has no idea of the power she has unleashed. One by one, the mill girls succumb to a sleeping sickness. To save everyone, Briar must find the strength to break the curse and defeat the evil fairy for good.
