Review

I love this book, BUT it is NOT kid-friendly!!!! Surprisingly, a lot of the Biblical fiction is not kid-friendly. A lot of things in the Bible are quite…. well… violent/adult-y/and sooooooooooo NOT kid-friendly… (Weird right? I always thought the Bible was like super kid-friendly, but turns out… It actually has a lot of adult stuff in it…. Fun Fact!)

This book is about a girl who got taken to Jericho (Before it fell) and was branded with the mark of the temple goddness-creepy-lady to be used as a “priestess” in the temple. (CODE WORDS! Pro-st-it-ute. I’m hoping no kids get that. But they do mention that word a lot, and the “other” word as well… You have been warned!) She was saved BEFORE anything happened, but there is a lot of mention of what could-of happened.

Anyways, the book is all about her being accused for murder and having to runaway. It takes her on this cool adventure to all sorts of places, while trying to except herself as who she is. (To sum it up… It’s a coming of age story with a BIT more detail then usual)

Over all, I suggest this books to OLDER teens, (14 and up) and it is more of a girl book… Again sorry guys! I hope this review was helpful! -The Young Llama Reader.

Seven years ago, Moriyah was taken captive in Jericho and branded with the mark of the Canaanite gods. Now the Israelites are experiencing peace in their new land, but Moriyah has yet to find her own peace. Because of the shameful mark on her face, she hides behind her veil at all times and the disdain of the townspeople keeps her from socializing. And marriage prospects were out of the question . . . until now.

Her father has found someone to marry her, and she hopes to use her love of cooking to impress the man and his motherless sons. But when things go horribly wrong, Moriyah is forced to flee. Seeking safety at one of the newly-established Levitical cities of refuge, she is wildly unprepared for the dangers she will face, and the enemies–and unexpected allies–she will encounter on her way.
