Review
This retelling is a stunning look at the life of King David, written for kids! I can not wait to read more by this author!!!!
This book is about Jonathan, David and Saul. It is a retelling of the historic Bible tale, that is clean for kids! From the moment Saul became king, to when David killed the giant, to the reign of a Man after God’s own Heart. This tale is full of friendship, war, hope and forgiveness.
I can’t even tell you how amazing this novel is!!!!! King David’s story is full of rough moments that this author toned down for kids perfectly. It is a retelling, so some parts are changed. This book only has 1 of David’s wives, it isn’t as violent as the real story and it has some details missing that aren’t kid-friendly.
There is violence in the book. Mention of blood, wounds, death and such. It is all VERY clean and kids could read it just fine. David does cut off Goliath’s head and brings it to Saul, but it is not gory at all. Almost no description. Some talk of war, but overall it is all incredibly kid-friendly!
Overall, READ IT!!! This is a masterpiece of Biblical fiction that boys 8 and up would LOVE! I love this book and totally suggest it. Happy Reading!!! -The Young Llama Reader.
Pros

Cons
- Violence and death mentioned…
Bible stories from 1 and 2 Samuel brought to life in this dramatic chapter book.
This dramatic retelling of the accounts of the first two kings of Israel follows the intertwining stories of Jonathan, Saul, David and Michal documented in 1 and 2 Samuel.
In this imaginative yet biblically faithful book, readers will find themselves immersed in the hearts and minds of the key players as they experience battles, intrigue, plots, betrayal, love, and friendship.
This resource is a great way to help kids aged 8-12 engage with God’s word.
They’ll be left thinking about what it means to trust God and realizing that only Jesus can really be the king God’s people need.
