Review

My wonderful friend got me this book for Christmas, (Thank you Sophie!!!!) and I just adored it!!!!!! (The movie was great as well in case you were wondering!)

This book is about a family. Not a family of good kids, but the worst kids ever. The Herdmans were considered the worst children ever by the whole town. So no one ever expected them to walk into the church and demand to be part of the Christmas Pageant. But they did! And now the sacred Pageant is being turned on it’s head… But maybe for the better?

This short novel is a wonderful read!!!!!!! I could not put it down. I laughed soooo many times and loved the hope, joy and love written in every chapter! If you are looking for a simple read about finding the meaning of Christmas in a disaster of a Christmas Pageant, this is the read for you and your family!!!!!

Honestly this book was fabulous and I don’t have any warnings. There is bullying in the story and kids getting hit or pushed. Mention of parents not being around and such. But I wouldn’t say that’s a ‘con’, it’s part of the story and the bullies change during the novel.

Overall, this is a 100% Yes from me!!!!! Such an amazing story for Christmas and for boys and girls 7 and up! Merry Christmas! -The Young Llama Reader.

Pros

  • A wonderful novel about Hope!
  • Such a good Christmas read!
  • Great for kids and families!!!!

Cons

  • Mention of bullies and such.

The Herdmans are the worst kids in the history of the world. They lie, steal, and swear. So no one is prepared when this outlaw family invades church one Sunday and decides to take over the annual Christmas pageant. None of the Herdmans has ever heard the Christmas story before. Their interpretation of the tale—the Wise Men are a bunch of dirty spies—has a lot of people up in arms. And their wild antics cause havoc throughout the play’s production.

But the actual pageant is full of surprises for everyone, starting with the Herdmans themselves, as they ultimately lead the town in finding the true meaning of Christmas. They will make this year’s pageant the most unusual anyone has seen and, just possibly, the best one ever.

Barbara Robinson’s popular and bestselling tale of the rowdy Herdmans has been beloved and celebrated since the book’s original release in 1972. Read the book again before you see the movie!
