I am in love with this Neverland series!!!!! It is full of twists and turns, romance and adventure!!!!!!!!!!! If you are looking for fairytale retellings, Mary Mecham’s books are perfect for you!!!
This book is a retelling of the Goose Girl. Set in a kingdom full of slavery and corruption, Dahlia is a spy set in place as the princesses handmaiden. With her kingdom crumbling to ruin, Dahlia knows the only hope is to overthrow the evil king and princess with the rebellion. So when she sets sail with the princess to her betrothed’s land, Dahlia strikes. Switching places with the princess was the easy part. The hard part will be not falling for Prince Korth who’s loyalty and honestly make Dahlia’s mission extra dangerous…
This was an excellent read, full of suspense, action and adventure at every chapter!!!!! I loved the world building, and the characters were sooooo well written. Plus the Goose Girl is usually about the princess, so reading about the girl playing the princess instead was amazing!!!!!!!!!!! Basically, this book is fabulous and I think young ladies 14 and up would love this series!
Now there is violence and dark topics in the novel. There is mention of slavery, a kingdom being mistreated, a rebellion rising up to stop it. There is mention of whips, scars and people dying. It isn’t gory, but the dark topics are mentioned. Which is why this is a teen book.
Overall, this book was soooo good and one I totally suggest. The Legends of Neverland series is one that adore and I hope you love it too!!!! Happy Readings! -The Young Llama Reader.
Pros
- A wonderful book about betrayal and love!
- Great novel for girls 14 and up!!!
Cons
- Mention of dark topics and violence…

Traitorous spies don’t deserve happily ever afters.
