Review
This absolutely beautiful book is a fabulous adventure for Christian teens 12 and up! Filled with friendship, adventure, a dash of romance and a quest full of danger; this novel is a quest of its own!
This book is about Yosarai Patican, a young women with dreams of being a illuminator just like her mother. But with hidden gifts and a trying family, Yosi is uncertain where her future leads. Prince Xander in danger of being assassinated, seeks some time of his own to grieve his father. So when he meets Yosi, it seems like an innocent friendship is formed. But when they enter the Quest together, danger is around every corner. The only way to survive is to win… But at what cost?
This book was very good. Filled with adventure and action, it was enjoyable and fun! The book had just a hint of romance. More the building of feelings than anything, but still very cute. And it had a great focus on trusting God through every trial. This would be a great series for young ladies 12 and up!!!
However, I did find the writing a bit fancier than I like. I had to have complete silence to focus on the book. There was a lot of lengthy words, and it was written in a more poetic way than most books. I couldn’t just fall into the world and get caught up in the story. It wasn’t like King James, but it wasn’t New Living Translation either. Honestly, the wording is my only ‘con’ for the book. It isn’t that violent. Some mentions of sabotage and a few mentions of assassinations. But not detailed.
Overall, though it is a great story and an enjoyable read I was a bit disappointed it the poetic wording. (If I want to read poetry, I would read Robert Frost not a novel) If you like adventure and quests, this would be a great book for you. -The Young Llama Reader.
