Review
This amazing adventure was suggested to me by my cousin, (Thanks Alayna!!!!) and this book is honestly just amazing!!!!!! Think Pirates of the Caribbean but written by a Christian.
This book is about Ximena Reale, the daughter of pirates who betrayed the empire and hung for their crimes. To escape from her parents treachery, Ximena worked her way through La Academia to join the Cazadores. But not everyone wants a pirates daughter to exceed. So when she is given the opportunity to catch the legendary pirate Gasparilla, Ximena jumps at the chance. Even though it means working with Dante de Leon, the boy who breaks every rule she is trying to live by. But as they set sail on an adventure filled with adventure and vengeance. The madness of it all starts to show through as Ximena sees the real empire…
This book was fabulous!!!!!!! I seriously adored it and was soooo excited to read it! There is tons of adventure, action, romance and redemption. The plot line is golden and the characters are awesome! Some described it has, “
Now there is violence in the book. Mention of stabbings, getting shot, scraped, hit and bruised. Mention of fights and blood. Mention of prisonors dying from scurvy with bones poking out. Plus a chapter where someone gets throw over the front of the ship, dragged along the bottom, scraped up by barnacles and almost dies… So not gory… But there is blood. By biggest ‘con’ was the witches in the book. Creepy ladies painted like skeletons who do the forbidden language of magic. It isn’t voo-doo, but they do draw symbols the glow and help them pass through storms and such. Weird but not too creepy.
Overall, I am enthralled by this story and need book 2!!!! (It’s coming out in January!) This book is a 10 out of 10 for me and 1 I most definitely suggest to young ladies 12 and up. Happy Readings!!! -The Young Llama Reader.
Pros
- An amazing adventure!!!
- Great for young ladies 12 and up!
Cons
- Violence and blood mentioned…
- Some mention of witches.
Ximena Reale has spent most of her life training at La Academia to join the Cazadores, seafaring hunters who track down pirates. But her future is uncertain, thanks to her parents’ questionable reputation. They were traitorous pirates, and though they were executed when Ximena and her sister were young, they permanently damaged the Reale name in the eyes of the Luzan Empire.
Ability alone won’t make Ximena a Cazadoro—or earn her the coveted Cazadoro cloak. So, when the legendary pirate Gasparilla returns and captures the Empire’s queen, Ximena offers to bring back the queen and the notorious pirate in exchange for a cloak. But there’s a catch: Only one cloak is available, and Ximena’s competition is Dante, an infuriating yet handsome classmate with mysterious motives.
With their futures on the line, Ximena and Dante set out on a dangerous quest across the high seas. But no matter how far Ximena sails, her family’s legacy haunts her, and her exposure to a world outside of la academia leads her to question the very laws she’s always fought to uphold. Is it possible she’s been on the wrong side all along?
