Review
I really enjoy Savvy and Scumble, so when I found Switch I just had to read it! This series is great for kids 8 and up who love a fun, magical, family story!!!
This book is the 3rd book in a series all about a family who has magic! But not your ordinary magic, Savvy magic where each member gets a “talent” on their 13th birthday. Gypsy has always been a free spirit. So she thought her Savvy would be flight or glitter bombs! But on her 13th birthday, she gets fuzzy vision instead. And after getting a new pair of glasses, Gypsy can see into the future or past of whoever she’s looking at. But when her family learns that their mean Grandma Pat who has Alzheimer’s is coming to live with them; Gypsy starts freezing time not seeing into it! Her big brother goes from being invisible to lighting up in flames! And her little brother starts growing! Now the Savvys are topsy-turvy and Gypsy has to stop one of her visions before it’s too late!!!!!
This book was soooooo good! The adventure was a blast reading, I loved how everyones powers switched and it was chaos. The message of the book seems to be acceptance. That sometimes life throws you a curveball and you have to either hit it or duck. And honestly, I think this is a great message for kids!!!!! (Because life isn’t all daisies and sunshine, sometimes you have to make your own happiness)
Now there are some sad parts in the book. Mention of people with Alzheimer’s struggling and how they can’t grasp onto reality. The vision Gypsy sees is her grandma falling from a clock tower because she got confused. (Which is a little dark but nothing happens. Everyone makes it out ok) There is also mention of a boy who likes to do makeup in the book. Weird, but it doesn’t seem to mean anything, he was just taught by his grandmother.
Overall, this book is very clean for girls 8 and up! It’s cute, fun and filled with adventure/chaos!!! I very much enjoy it, and I think you will too. Have a Blessed Day! -The Young Llama Reader.
