Review
Ok is this book just plain adorable! It is a retelling of Pride and Prejudice set in the 1980s with cool cars, scrunchies and plenty of mix-tape classics!
This book is about Elyse Nebbit, (lovingly) nicknamed Pudge by her older sister, a young women trying to survive her families move to Northenfield, Texas. Especially since Elyse doesn’t really fit in with the social norm at high school. She’s not tall, skinny and popular, she’s curvy, sarcastic and a nerd. But when her older (perfect) sister Jayne meets Charlie Bingley, one of the popular boys in school, Elyse’s luck starts changing as well when she gets to meet Billy Fitz, Charlie’s brooding best friend. But pride and some insecurities seem to keep getting in their way and Elyse isn’t certain she is popular material…
This is a book I have looked at for some time and I got it for free from Tyndale thanks to their Reader Rewards Club!!! It is such a sweet, high school novel about love, hope and acceptance. It is a cute romance that girls 13 and up would love; and a really cute take on Pride and Prejudice but in the 80’s!
Now there are some older topics in the book. Mention of body insecurities and thinking of weight and being fat. Also there is some talk of parties and such. Nothing bad happens though, no drugs and alcohol. There is also mention of virtue and a paragraph talking about the dangers of ‘ex. It isn’t described or detailed, but the book does a great job going over the proper way to date and how to keep to God’s will.
Overall, I believe this novel is very clean for girls 13 and up! It is a great Christian prospective about high school life and how to accept yourself for who you are. -The Young Llama Reader.

- A 80’s retelling of Pride and Prejudice!
Cons
- Some older topics…
A Mix-tape of the big 80’s style, high school angst and Jane Austen’s classic tale of romance, stubbornness and drama!
It’s 1984 and after moving to Northenfield, Texas, with her family, Elyse Nebbit faces the challenge of finding her place in a new school, one dominated by social status and Friday night football.
When Elyse’s effortlessly beautiful older sister Jayne starts dating golden boy Charlie Bingley, Elyse finds herself curious about Charlie’s popular and brooding best friend, Billy Fitz.
Elyse’s body insecurities eventually complicate her relationship with Billy, leaving Jayne and Elyse’s exceedingly blunt friend, Lottie, to step in and help Elyse accept herself for who she is, pant size and all.
