Review
This book is fabulous! I had no idea what was going on half the time and the other half I was just having a blast reading it!!! It’s a super clean, super fun and super sweet read; perfect for kids 8 and up!!!
This book is about a candy-factory, who is hosting a candymaking contest! Filled with sweet treats and confectionery delights; four kids will complete to see who can make the sweetest new candy that will change the candymaking world! But these four kids all have different motives for being in the contest. From revenge to family legacies, the contestants are in for an adventure of a life time! Especially since there is more going on that meets the eye…
This book was sweet! (Pun intended 😉 ) And I just loved every minute of it! Especially since it is told from 4 different points of view! The novel goes through each characters point of view during the contest and story, which is really fun and interesting! Not to mention, each part of the book brings new clues to the plot line. It honestly felt like a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure kind-of book. (Except you do have to read the book in order.)
Now the only ‘con’ or warning I need to mention is that there is someone with burns in the book. When they were young, the character stuck their arms into a boiling vat of chocolate. The burns aren’t detailed or described much, but it is part of the story. There is also mention of a kid who saw someone “disappear” in a lake and now he believes in the “afterlife” just so he can keep the girls spirit alive. Not creepy or magical, but it does have some sad parts mentioned. (It doesn’t make much since till you read the whole book, then your like, “Ohhhh!!! I get it now!”)
Overall, what a amazing read!!!! I seriously just loved this book, totally suggest it to kids 8 and up! It’s funny, adventurous and filled with more twists and turns than a lollipop! 10 out of 10! -The Young Llama Reader.
Pros
- A very sweet mystery with plenty of twists and turns!
- A fun story told 4 different ways!
- Totally kid-friendly, 8 and up!!!
Cons
- Mention of someone getting burned.
Four children have been chosen to compete in a national competition to find the tastiest confection in the country. Who will invent a candy more delicious than the Oozing Crunchorama or the Neon Lightning Chew?
Logan, the Candymaker’s son, who can detect the color of chocolate by touch alone?
Miles, the boy who is allergic to merry-go-rounds and the color pink?
Daisy, the cheerful girl who can lift a fifty-pound lump of taffy like it’s a feather?
Or Philip, the suit-and-tie wearing boy who’s always scribbling in a secret notebook?
This sweet, charming, and cleverly crafted story, told from each contestant’s perspective, is filled with mystery, friendship, and juicy revelations.
