Review
This is an amazing, (slightly sad) story about a prodigal daughter and her desperation to clear her name! It is super interesting, totally sweet and very real in your face. I was hooked from chapter 1 and totally confused on how it would end!
This book is about Minerva Sinclaire, a young girl desperate for dreams of stardom! But her dreams start turning into nightmares when she wakes up next to a dead man. Now on the run, Mina needs help to clear her already soiled name. And the only ones willing to help are Max, her agent who won’t tell her his past, and Oscar the gardener who isn’t willing to put his family in danger for a gringa who brings nothing but trouble. But as the mystery sinks deeper into the Hollywood drama, Mina realizes to fix her mistakes, she might have to go back to her humble beginnings that she was so desperate to escape from…
Wow was this book intense! It was a good intense, but half the time I just wanted to hug this poor girl. The story just broke my heart… The desperation that happened in the Great Depression can be very sad to read about and will break you heart at times! Don’t get me wrong, I do really love this book. But it is a read that I would suggest for young ladies 16 and up, just because this amazing story can also be a bit sad to read…
There is also some adult topics that some up in this novel. Mention of people “loving” each other and such. It is not described, but it is mentioned. There is mention of women who get paid for stuff and mention of it hurting. Plus mention of a girl getting taken advantage of which is super sad. There is also some mention of drinking and drugs as well as children being born out of wedlock and sometimes girls would “end” those small lives. Overall, not much is detailed however it is mentioned and brought up quite a few times.
Overall, this book is fabulous! It is a novel that will stay with you and make you think about the lives of those who have nothing let. While also traumatize you because it is sometimes too much!!!!!!!… 10 out of 10 totally suggest. -The Young Llama Reader.
Pros
- An amazing novel about forgiveness!
- A Prodigal Son rewrite!
- A very action-packed mystery!!!
Cons
- Adult topics mentioned…
- NOT a kids book…
It’s 1931 in Hollywood, and Minerva Sinclaire is on the run for a murder she didn’t commit.
As the Great Depression hits the Midwest, Minerva Sinclaire runs away to Hollywood, determined to make it big and save the family farm. But beauty and moxie don’t pay the bills in Tinseltown, and she’s caught in a downward spiral of poverty, desperation, and compromise. Finally, she’s about to sign with a major studio and make up for it all. Instead, she wakes up next to a dead film star and is on the run for a murder she didn’t commit.
Only two unwilling men―Oscar, a Mexican gardener in danger of deportation, and Max, a too-handsome agent battling his own demons―can help Mina escape corrupt police on the take and the studio big shots trying to frame her. But even her quick thinking and grit can’t protect her from herself. Alone, penniless, and carrying a shameful secret, Mina faces the consequences of the heartbreaking choices that brought her to ruin . . . and just might bring her back to where she belongs.
