Review

Oh My Fairies! I love this book! I am sitting here typing this review and crying because it is one of the most beautifully written novels I have read in such a long time. This book is simply about love, generosity and being neighborly. It is a absolutely gorgeous book.

In a town that was once beautiful but is now in ruins, a story begins to unfold. It all started with a Library, but then it was gone. But there was an Ogress, who loved all but was feared by all as well. There was also 15 orphans who saw things others did not. And then there was a dragon. Mistrust and suspension are all the town knows now… But what if that can change with some baked goods and a bit of knowledge from some long lost stories. And what if that town was good again?

This book was amazing!!!!!!!!!! I was swept away in a truly inspiring tale filled with laughter, some sadness, a bit of loss and some small acts of good deeds. Was it magic? No, but maybe it was close… This story is soooooooo sweet!!!! I literally finished it and started crying. What kind-of story moves you like this?

Honestly this book gets 4.9 Llamas and the Golden Llama Award! The only warnings I would give is that there is some violence. Mention of people turning on each other. Some mention of fights and blood. (not too descriptive) There is magic in the book. Mention that dragons use their magic to transform into animals. They use the animals skins to become them. Maybe it’s a bit gross, nothing is described though. It has that old classic fantasy feel. (Remember in Narnia when Aslan removes the dragon skin from Eustace to turn him back into a boy? It feels a lot like that. Gross deflated skin, use it to transform. The dragons treat it as a “holy” thing and not to be misused.)

Overall, this book is a 12 out of 10 from me! I adored it and can not wait to re-read it!!!!!!!! It is simply perfection. (Not that I really think anything can be perfect except Jesus.) This is one of my new favorite novels and one I suggest to kids 8 and up; as well as families and teachers looking for a new read-a-loud! Have a beautiful day! -The Young Llama Reader.

Pros

  • An ABSOLUTELY beautiful book!
  • Fabulous read!
  • Soooo clean!
  • Great for kids 8 and up!!!!!!!

Cons

  • Some violence.

Stone-in-the-Glen is a once-lovely town that has fallen on hard times. The beautiful Library burned down; the dazzling, dragon-slaying Mayor offers more speeches than action. And for all their resourcefulness, the fourteen clever Orphans at the Orphan House still struggle to get enough to eat.

When a mysterious neighbor begins leaving baked goods and other gifts around Stone-in-the-Glen, the Orphans start to explore the history and possibilities of their town. Then one day, a child goes missing from the Orphan House. At the Mayor’s accusation, all eyes turn to the Ogress who lives nearby—a stranger to the townsfolk (or so they think).

How can the Orphans share the story of the Ogress’s goodness with people who refuse to listen? And how can they help their misguided neighbors see the real villain in their midst?
