Review

So let me just say I LOVE this book!!! I always enjoy a good sci-fi, but this novel is stunning!!!!!! (Which is strange, because the author is mostly known for her vampire series not this one sci-fi book.) I should also mention, I loved this book so much that I redid the cover. (So that beautiful cover you see there. Sadly it’s only for me)

This book is about Earth after an alien invasion took place. The “Souls” are a small alien species that need a host to survive. So when Wanderer makes it to her new planet, she does what she has always done. Take on a new body and begin a new life. But much to her surprise, the human mind doesn’t leave like normal. If anything she gets stronger. And Wanderer can’t seem to dislike her as much as she wants to. Melanie wants to live. And she wants to go back to the other human survivors. So alien and human together in one body, start a quest to find out what home really is….

This is one of my all time favorite novels!!!! I love the adventure, the action and the suspense! The way the world is written is fascinating, and I love how the aliens and humans are soooo different! Honestly this book is a one-of-a-kind science-fiction adventure. It is an amazing read and one I totally suggest to girls 16 and up who love a good sci-fi!

However, I will saw this book does have violence in it. (Like all sci-fi) The main character gets beat up a LOT! I’m talking about falling down an elevator shaft, getting hit, punched, slammed against walls. Mention of almost drownings and strangling and such. There is mention of blood, getting stabbed, hit and such. It isn’t overly described, but it is mentioned.

There is also some mention of kissing. The alien in the book is inside Melanie’s (the human) body and they both kind-of live in the mind together. (Weird right?) And because of that, Melanie is in love with someone who is not in love with the alien, and Wanderer (the alien) is also in love with someone else. So it is a love square but with only 3 bodies but 4 minds. (Confused yet?) So some kissing does come up. I will say it isn’t as described as I thought it would be. But there is mention of heat and passion as they kiss, as well as one mention of tongues. It’s one sentence. There is also mention of people partnering up without marriage. (It is the end of the human world so I can’t blame them) But they do “share” stuff. However nothing is described, it’s just mentioned in memories and such.

Overall, I love this book sooooo much! I love the story and the characters and I will probably be re-reading this again soon! Young Ladies 16 and up could totally read this. Have a Blessed Day! -The Young Llama Reader.

Pros

  • A fantastic sci-fi novel!!!!
  • Great for ladies 16 and up!

Cons

  • Blood, violence and death mentioned.
  • Some kissing mentioned…

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.

Wanderer, the invading “soul” who has been given Melanie’s body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Melanie fills Wanderer’s thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves — Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body’s desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she’s never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.
