So, this is actually a repost of one of my favorite novels ever! I loved this book as a kid and it is a book that I have happily re-read as an adult. It is the perfect read for any kid obsessed with wolves!!!
This book is about Blue Boy, a wolf on a mission to make his own pack and have a firstborn as strong and powerful as him. But Lamar isn’t what his father expected. A gentle wolf, always focused on helping others instead of taking the lead. With harsh winters, difficult struggles and a quest to find the perfect home; this amazing book is told from the point of view of a bird, who is more than happy to call the pack her own…
This novel is sooooo good. The action and adventure is written so well and I just adore the plot line! I read and re-read this book so many times, I know the story by heart now. And what an amazing story it is! Get ready for an adventure that will keep you reading till the end!!! Perfect for kids 9 and up.
Now, this book is about wolves. There is death mentioned throughout the novel as well as some blood. Mention of killing animals, eating them and ripping them to shreds. But the thing is, it isn’t super graphic. Like the wolves have blood on their faces. They carry a piece of meat around. They grab an animals throat. It is actually a pretty clean read. Not too gory, totally good for kids. (Kids that can handle a bit of death that is… Don’t just hand this to your kid who cries over the squished worm on the sidewalk, ok?)
Overall, this book definitely deserves the Golden Llama Award! It is on of my all time favorite books and even made it on my Christmas Book List this year! So if you know a kid this Christmas who loves all things wolf, I think I have the perfect gift for you. 😉 -The Young Llama Reader.

Wolves. Predators of the wild. Stalkers of the forests. Born into rankings and expected to live up to their roles.
Blue Boy, the alpha male of his pack, is the largest wolf many have ever seen, and his dream is to have a firstborn son who will take after him in every way. But Lamar is not turning out the way his father hoped. Lamar likes to watch butterflies. He worries if his younger siblings fall behind in the hunt. He has little interest in peacocking in front of other clans.
Blue Boy grows increasingly dismayed at Lamar’s lack of wolf instincts, and then Lamar does the intolerable: he becomes attracted to a coyote. While the other infractions can be begrudgingly tolerated, this one cannot, and the unity of the pack is in jeopardy. Lamar wants to make his family happy, but is doing what is expected of him worth losing the only true friend he’s ever had?
