Review

I LOVED this book! Car heists, dine-and-dash, ex-mobsters going crazy and a hairless cat all rolled into one totally awesome adventure!!!

This book is about Oscar Aberdeen, a 12 year old who lives at a retirement center with his grandpa. But when the price of rent goes up, Oscar has to figure out a way to get some cash and fast! Enter Jimmy Deluca, a shady old man who tells him he can get him the dough if Oscar can break him out of Sunny Days. Only Jimmy is a bit different than he thought. Being an ex-mobster and all. So now Oscar is on the ride of his life, all to fulfill Jimmy’s bucket list and get back in time for bingo.

This book was AMAZING!!!!!!! I laughed soooooo hard while also crying. (I’m an emotional person) Y’all, this is a novel that boys and girls 8 and up would LOVE! It is an crazy adventure with rollercoasters, tattoo parlors, illegal poker games and more! Every chapter is a laugh and it is a book I totally suggest!

Now there isn’t cursing in the book, but there is mention of it. The ex-mobster curses a lot, so the kid fills in the curse words with “quacks” or “quacking” which I think is hilarious! The only curse in the Lord’s name is vain. (Sorry Jesus!) There is also a nickname in the book “No Nuts”, the girl Natasha picks it up because she thinks it’s funny.

Overall, this book is INCREDIBLY clean and awesome!!! I loved it soooooo much and totally suggest it!!!!! Happy Reading! -The Young Llama Reader.

Pros

  • An hilarious book!!!!
  • Perfect for boys 8 and up!

Cons

  • Cursing mentioned and 1 rude comment…

Oscar Aberdeen is a bit of an oddball. He’s an ace at playing bridge, loves Frank Sinatra, and attends a whole lot of funerals. He’s also the youngest resident of Sunny Days retirement home by more than a half-century―and he wouldn’t have it any other way. So when his grandpa’s suddenly served an eviction notice that threatens their place at Sunny Days, he needs to find some cash. Fast.

Enter Jimmy Deluca, a shady elderly man with a reputation for being bad news, who makes Oscar an offer he can’t refuse. He’s got the drop on riches hidden away on the “outside” and he’ll share the loot with Oscar on one condition: he busts him out of Sunny Days.

In this humdinger of an adventure, the ultimate odd couple, along with an uninvited stowaway, go from high-stakes escape to rollicking escapade as they search for the secret stash―and forge an unlikely friendship along the way. Will Oscar succeed in saving the only home he’s ever known? Or will he have to fuggedaboutit and return a failure?
