Review

This is a fantastic, Christian-friendly, Gothic, fantasy/mystery! It’s funny while also being adventurous and interesting. And even though it’s only 200 pages, this book is stunning!!!

This book is about Edith Worms, a clergyman’s daughter with a passion for writing. But her plans are ruffled when her family has to head back to the Wormwood estate after her relative has passed. But the Gothic abbey in the wilds of Yorkshire is full of mystery and dangerous secrets… And when Edith is pulled into the ancient family legacy by accident, her whole life changes…

This book is the 1st in a 5 book series, and I am obsessed! It’s full of mystery and adventure! It has dragons, and I just LOVE dragons!!! The novel is funny and interesting! There’s a bit of romance and family problems as well. Honestly I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait for book 2!

Now there is some violence in the book. Mention of being attacked and some violence. Nothing gory, just dragon bites and such. There is someone who dies from a dragon bite, and kidnapping. But the book is still clean for girls 12 and up.

Overall, this series is going to be awesome!!! I can not wait for books 2-5! If you are looking for a Victorian Gothic series with dragons, these would be the books for you! -The Young Llama Reader.

Pros

  • A very fun adventure!!!
  • Great for girls 12 and up!

Cons

  • Some violence.

As a Victorian clergyman’s daughter, Edith Worms has seen everything — until a mythical salamander tumbles out of the fireplace into her lap.

When a letter arrives from estranged relatives, Edith is swept away to a crumbling Gothic abbey in the wilds of Yorkshire. Wormwood Abbey isn’t just full of curious beasts and ancient family secrets: there’s also a tall, dark, and entirely too handsome neighbour who is strangely reluctant for her to leave.

An unexpected bond with her prickly cousin Gwendolyn gives Edith a reason to stay in this strange world — especially when it turns out that Edith herself may have a role in guarding her family’s legacy.

But not all of the mysteries of Ormdale are small enough to fit in her lap…and some of them have teeth.

WORMWOOD ABBEY, Book 1 of The Secrets of Ormdale, is a cosy gothic novel of mystery, dragons, and the perils of friendship.

Start exploring the hidden valley of Ormdale in 1899 with WORMWOOD ABBEY, the first in a new five book series.
