Wicked Warnings!

Hey my Llamaings! I thought I would do a quick post about the play, movie and book of Wicked. (Which I have not seen or read any of these. But I have watched parts and read the reviews.)

For those of you who don’t know, (Which can’t be many, because this thing is very popular!) Wicked was a Broadway play about the witches of Oz. The play is about Glinda the Good and Elphaba, who is the Wicked Witch of the West. Now the funny thing is the play is actually very clean. It obviously has magic in it. Monkeys grow wings, people change into metal and straw men. Plus there is a part with a spell book and words that sound like nonsense. Mention of a wife cheating and some some people get hurt. (No blood or anything) The play is super fun and shows that not all villains are as evil as they seem.

Now the movie that just came out actually looks pretty clean. It has all the same things the play has. (Cheating and magic.) However it also has some characters that may be a bit “fabulous”. I don’t think they mention it too much, but it seems to be there. The thing is, I don’t want to see the movie. And not because it doesn’t look good. It does. But because the actors and actresses have very twisted world views they are pushing into the movie. I am not interested in seeing a Glinda who doesn’t like guys or a Elphaba that is into both genders… No thank you.

And even weirder than all of that is the fact that this film and play are based of a book that is apparently Filthy! I am talking about totally inappropriate, not clean for any age and should be burned filthy… Animals and humans “do stuff together”, mention of ‘ape, ‘ex and other such things. It is described and totally not clean. There is LBGT in there as well. I only read 2 chapters of the book and knew immediately that it was bad. And now it has a new cover based off the movie, but it is still the same book!!! Do not read it people! Don’t buy it for your kids or teens either! It may look like the movie but I can assure you that Wicked by Gregory Maguire is a book best burned. You have been warned. -The Young Llama Reader.
