Review

So, apparently I’m obsessed with this series. (Obviously) So if you see a lot of these books being posted lately, it’s because I love them!!!

This book is about Noah, a regular boy who loves the wildlife of Florida. But probably not as much as his dad loves it; because his dad sunk a boat over it. Mind you, the casino boat was dumping human waste into the beautiful waters of Florida Keys. But now Noah’s dad is in jail, his mom is freaking out, his sister is steaming mad and Noah might just have to finish what his dad started! But he’s going to need help. With his sister, a crazy ex-mate of the casino boat, a lady who’s heart is as big as her biceps and a mysterious stranger who seems to know more than he lets on… Noah is in for the ride of his life!

This book was amazing. I really enjoyed the plot line, the humor was hilarious, the characters were outstanding; I just loved it! The adventure is entertaining and so good for boys 8 and up. The focus on protecting God’s beautiful wildlife is just perfection.

Now there are some parts in the novel to be aware of. There is violence. People get into fights, mentions of illegal activities and such. There isn’t blood mentioned or anything. However, this book does have some other stuff mentioned in it that should be noted. There is mention of a couple living together. Mention of “exotic dancers” on the boat, as well as mention of a man going home with a women. Nothing happens, he just gets drunk and passes out. And that same women also shaves her legs in front of Noah and his sister. (Which obviously grosses his out!) The book has some “potty-talk”, just stuff like human waste and curse words.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I do suggest it. Some people may not enjoy it as much as I did, but that’s ok. They’re just missing out on an awesome read! Later Llamas! -The Young Llama Reader.

Pros

  • A hilarious novel for boys 8 and up!
  • Funny, adventurous and totally worth it!!!
  • Almost as good as Chomp!

Cons

  • Some violence…
  • “Potty-talk”
A hilarious, high-stakes adventure involving crooked casino boats, floating fish, toxic beaches, and one kid determined to get justice. This is Carl Hiaasen’s Florida—where the creatures are wild and the people are wilder!

You know it’s going to be a rough summer when you spend Father’s Day visiting your dad in the local lockup.

Noah’s dad is sure that the owner of the Coral Queen casino boat is flushing raw sewage into the harbor–which has made taking a dip at the local beach like swimming in a toilet. He can’t prove it though, and so he decides that sinking the boat will make an effective statement. Right. The boat is pumped out and back in business within days and Noah’s dad is stuck in the clink.

Now Noah is determined to succeed where his dad failed. He will prove that the Coral Queen is dumping illegally . . . somehow. His allies may not add up to much–his sister Abbey, an unreformed childhood biter; Lice Peeking, a greedy sot with poor hygiene; Shelly, a bartender and a woman scorned; and a mysterious pirate–but Noah’s got a plan to flush this crook out into the open. A plan that should sink the crooked little casino, once and for all.
