I loved this book!!! The Flight of Swans is a retelling of a classic fairytale, but it is sooooooo much better than the original!
This book is about Princess Andaryn, a young girl trying to find her place in the kingdom. But when her father marries a strange women from the forest, suddenly Ryn’s entire family is under her spell. And when Ryn tries to break the spell, her brothers get cursed into black swans, she gets banished, and the only way to save them is to be silent for 6 years… But Ryn won’t just give up. If she has to be silent, she will fight with her actions instead…
This novel is a masterpiece of fantasy and adventure! The magic in the book was very Celtic with a veil between the worlds, and how words have power. Honestly, this book was amazing and I totally suggest it! Girls 12 and up who love fairytale retellings need to read this story.
Now there is violence in the book. Mention of war, death, bodies, blood and such. Mention of losing loved ones, people getting stabbed, hurt, cursed and such. (Not gory, but not a kids book) There is also curse words sadly, just a few but still. There is also magic in the book. The evil in the book is a women who enchants men. She can turn people into animals, she also has soldiers from the magical realm who are hounds that can transform into humans. They hunt people down and kill them. All the magic in the book is portrayed as evil and not meant for this world, which I liked.
Overall, this book was a stellar read and one I totally suggest! If you are a fan of Brothers Grimm’s fairy tale Six Swans, this would be a great book for you!!! -The Young Llama Reader.
